For many patients, dental implants can be almost the same as having their natural teeth back again. Instead of being a removable device inside the mouth, dental implants are permanently anchored into the jaw itself. The dental implants procedure is surgical, but usually performed under local anesthesia. The key to a successful tooth replacement is “osseointegration”, or the integration of the implant and jaw bone. Good candidates for dental implants need healthy oral tissues and jawbone in order for this to occur. When the implant post is surgically placed, a chemical and mechanical bond is formed and over time, the jawbone integrates in with the dental implant. Successful integration of the implant and bone requires the expertise of an implant dentist with years of experience in all implant-related procedures, including their placement and bone grafting.

In the comfort and convenience of our San Juan Capistrano, CA office, we care equipped and trained to provide comprehensive implant care!
Our dental implants process begins with a thorough evaluation of your medical and dental history and a complete examination by Dr. Shubin of your mouth and the area surrounding the missing tooth (or teeth), including x-rays. After your consultation, we encourage your questions and concerns and Dr. Shubin will recommended the most ideal comprehensive treatment plan for your oral condition, smile goals, and financial situation. If you need preliminary procedures, such as bone grafting or tooth extractions, we will complete these before or on the day of your implant surgery, depending on your situation. We provide different levels of sedation you can choose during your procedure, though with Dr. Shubin’s gentle and skilled approach, local anesthetic is commonly all that is needed. During your surgical procedure, the implant site is prepared with small drills, then special equipment and surgical guides are used to gently place the tooth implant precisely into the prepared site, after which the gums are replaced over the implant with sutures. A temporary tooth replacement is placed in the space where the tooth was removed. The amount of healing time is different for each patient and depends on variables such as the quality and quantity of bone, as well as the type of implant placed. After healing, we will schedule a series of visits for follow-up care, and when Dr. Shubin determines that you have healed adequately, he will use the implant to support a permanent crown, bridge, or denture — completing your dental implants process. Within a few weeks after receiving the final restoration, most of our patients consider the restoration as their own tooth, rather than an implant!
